This trip was once again something very special. In 2025, we travelled to Cuba a little later than usual – with the idea of catching the new moon week. Fishing was better for some, a little quieter for others. I noticed that there were fewer large schools on the flats. The guides and later Yentsi confirmed that the season was not easy overall.
And yet – each of us spotted and caught fish. And even with slightly fewer fish, Jardines de la Reina remains an absolute dream destination. The mangroves, the untouched landscape and the feeling of anchoring the mother ship in the middle of the nature reserve are simply unique. Fishing literally begins right in front of the ship – a luxury that you can hardly experience anywhere else. Once again, everything was superbly organised. Motivated, dedicated guides, a crew on board who did a great job, and a kitchen that spoiled us every day. A special highlight was Stefan Trobos' idea: everyone brings 3–4 bottles of their favourite wine. The result? The finest wine accompaniment on board – only the best of the best was drunk.
The evenings on board were also unforgettable: the ship lay calmly at anchor, the sunset coloured the sky and water, Cohibas were lit, mojitos were mixed, and the day ended with lots of laughter, good conversation and fun together. These hours, when calm slowly returns and you feel how privileged you are, are among the most beautiful moments of the trip. The group harmonised perfectly, we had a lot to laugh about and simply had a really good time together.
